Xenophon Avlonitis - B’ Vice-Chair



Xenofon Avlonitis was born in Athens in 1969. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Piraeus and an MSc in Business Finance from Brunel University, UK. In 2006, he was the first Greek to be honored with a fellowship for the "Yale World Fellows Program", a leadership training program at Yale University, US.

Xenofon has worked in the financial department of Fulgor SA and as IRO and Treasurer of Edrasis SA. He joined the Hellenic Capital Market Commission in 1997. From 2003 and for the next six years, he served as Director of the Department of Public Offerings & Supervision of Listed Companies. He has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, since June 2009.

While participating in the European Council working group on the ‘Prospectus Directive', Xenofon gained strong insight and experience in the European Union Institutions. Since then, he has presided over four Committees for the transposition of EU Directives into Greek legislation (such as the Prospectus and the Alternative Fund Managers Directives). He is also a member of the Standing Committee of the European Securities and Markets Authority regarding Accounting matters.

Since 2003, he serves as a board member at the Accounting and Auditing Standards Oversight Board of Greece. Since 2011, he is a council member at the Hellenic Corporate Governance Council.

He is married and has two children, aged 15 and 13.
